Kit Gun
Can you buy gun kits through the mail to make a useable gun?
I remember an old episode of “The Practice” in which a company sold gun kits that made a gun without the firing mechanism, and sold the firing mechanism separate, so people with criminal records could get a gun without a background check/gun license. Can this be done? Also, couldn’t someone just buy all the parts they need for a gun seperately at local gun shops, and put them all togeather at home?
Only black powder guns can be sold in this way (by mail).
A felon can buy all of the parts to build a modern gun in a gun shop, except for the frame, which has the serial number on it. Even to buy a stripped frame that won’t fire, a NICS check has to be performed, as the ATF considers the frame to be a “firearm”
