Dual Power Supply

What’s the difference between a dual 12V rail and a regular 12V rail on a computer power supply?
How does the dual 12V rail work? Is there a difference in the physical interface? Can i just add the amperage of both 12V rails together to get a total amperage? I’m considering building a computer with SLI video and I’ve read that 36A on the 12V rail is a good figure to start with. That’s why i am asking.
It seperates wear the wattage is going between the two seperate rails… It is like a house wired for 240. Some of your outlets go to one rail in the electrical panel on 120 some to the other rail of 120. Then yet others use both rails for 240. In the computer power supply they never really combine both rails though, just split where the end of the line goes.
